Supplemental Coverage
Help with the bills your health plan leaves behind.
Even good health insurance comes with deductibles, copays, and time away from work. Supplemental policies pay benefits that can help you absorb those costs instead of draining savings.
What supplemental coverage does
Hospital indemnity plans pay a set benefit for covered hospital stays and related services. Accident plans pay benefits for covered accidental injuries. Critical illness plans pay a lump sum if you are diagnosed with a covered serious condition.
Benefits are typically paid to you, so you can use them for medical bills, household expenses, or lost income. You choose what the money covers.
An important distinction
Supplemental and fixed benefit products are not comprehensive major medical insurance and are not minimum essential coverage. They are designed to sit alongside a major medical or Medicare plan, not replace one.
We will always explain what a supplemental policy does not cover, in writing, before you buy. A plan that sounds cheap because it covers very little is not a bargain.
Who it tends to fit
People with high deductible health plans, Medicare beneficiaries concerned about hospital copays, families who would feel a missed paycheck quickly, and self employed workers without paid sick time.
Common questions
Does supplemental insurance replace my health plan?
No. It supplements a primary plan. You still need major medical or Medicare coverage as your foundation.
How are benefits paid?
Most supplemental plans pay a stated benefit amount for a covered event, paid to you after a claim is filed with documentation.
Can I add supplemental coverage any time?
Many supplemental products can be purchased outside of open enrollment, though health questions and waiting periods may apply. We will review the details with you.
